Academics

Kellogg has a broad offering of academic opportunities for students interested to learn more about energy and sustainability. Academic enrichment can help "career switchers" gain knowledge and experience for their transition into a new industry, deepen the skills and experience of students already in energy and sustainability, or provide foundational knowledge for the student body at large considering the increasing importance sustainability plays across all industries.

Kellogg's academic approach to energy and sustainability is two-pronged:

1. Business courses applied to energy & sustainability issues at Kellogg
2. In-depth energy & sustainability courses through its partnership with the Institute for Energy and Sustainability at Northwestern (ISEN)

This approach is complemented with non-credit seminars and case competitions. You can find an overview of all the opportunities in the Energy & Sustainability pathway, which serves as a guidance for students wishing to bolster their energy and sustainability knowledge at Kellogg.

The club also provides many resources to learn more about sustainability such as our Climate Geeks Dashboard.

Testimonials on courses:

Kellogg

"My favorite E&S class has been Impact Investing and Sustainable Finance with Dave Chen. For someone with a limited background in finance, I found it to be a phenomenal survey of capital markets and the VC landscape for climate related projects and companies."

Ben Mitchell, 2Y'23

"Professor Busse is a personal hero at the intersection between corporate strategy and sustainability. Her class, Economics of Energy Markets and the Environment, helps students strategically understand the different stakeholders involved in energy markets. The pragmatic approach to understanding these markets was key to know what is most important when considering different sustainability efforts across various energy markets."

- Jake Roeper, 2Y'23

ISEN

"Since I consider a career in carbon removal, it was amazing that I had the opportunity to take the class Carbon Capture, Removal and Usage at ISEN from Wil Burns. It helped me solidify my fundamentals on the topic and go more in-depth with policy, technical and economic deep dives."

- Bjorn De Groote, 2Y'23

"Passionate about Food & Agri Tech as well as topics such as social impact and sustainability, taking the ISEN class "Future of food" by Dave Donnan provided me extensive and up-to-date insights on a broad range of subjects valuable to me: key innovations in food along the food supply chain, news in food tech VC space, etc."

- Clemence Doblin, 2Y'23
