The dog beach was previously located at Church Street and Lake Michigan. Access code required for entry from April 1 until November 30, so you have to register your dog to be able to use the beach during that period. Cost: Approx. $70 vaccinations/vet check. NOTE THAT THIS BEACH HAS BEEN CLOSED SINCE 2020 DUE TO RISING WATER LEVELS OF LAKE MICHIGAN. WILL UPDATE WHEN IT IS REOPENED.
Evanston requires pet owners to register their animals with the city. Pet Licenses for City of Evanston cost $10.00 for neutered animals and $15.00 for non-neutered. Please see the City of Evanston's website for more information.
The 2.7 acre park is a fenced, off-leash outdoor recreation facility, with separate puppy/small dog and agility areas. It is located at 3220 Oakton St. (Channelside Park) and requires a $45 registration, similar to the process of dog beach registration.
The dog beach is located on the Northwest corner of Montrose Beach (the point closest to the city). Just follow Wilson Avenue east until it curves to the left at the lake. Look for the big corrugated steel walls of the old Boat Launch. The main entrance to the beach is through the boat launch, and down the ADA ramp. There is a second entrance on the beach to the right (south) of the boat launch at the end of the path, and down the rockwall. All DFA (dog friendly areas) require a registration ($5 for a DFA tag), but this is not checked at the beach.
This is a really pretty, big park for walking. There is also a dog beach that is rarely locked and monitored - much more low-key than Evanston, and just a long walk or quick ride away!
This park is about 30 minutes north of Evanston and has a forest preserve area where you can walk the trails with your dog off-leash. Also includes a small lake where dogs can swim. It's doggie heaven!
Dog area is located at IL-43 S/South Waukegan Road - The entrance and parking area for the dog exercise area are separate, located on Waukegan Road (Rte 43) south of Old Mill Road and north of Half Day Road (Rte 22).
