St. Valentine's Day is a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus.
Why is it important?
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. This holiday is typically associated with romantic love and celebrated by people expressing their love with gifts.
Valentine's Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century. Although there were several Christian martyrs named Valentine, the day may have taken its name from a priest who was martyred about 270 A.D. by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus.
