What's the Haiku Crew?   We, and by "we," we mean Ben, will provide a wine-inspired haiku each newsletter for your enjoyment.  To submit your own haiku, email Heather (hmilne2011@kellogg.northwestern.edu).  If your haiku is used, you'll get a free C+S Wine Glass, and quite possibly some adoration from Ben.  

Tell Me about Cork & Screw’s Philosophy on Wine? Glad you asked. Cork + Screw is a fun and welcoming group that aspires to further Kelloggians’ knowledge and appreciation of wine through entertaining forums and events.  We pour wine without pretense, assume no incoming knowledge and challenge our members to broaden their wine horizons.  Whether you are an aspiring Grand Sommelier or simply wish to know when to order red versus white, we look forward to meeting and sharing our enjoyment of wine with you.

Thanks to the 1st Years, 1Ys and JVs who joined us at McManus on Thursday 9/23 for our kickoff wine event.   The velocity with which you consumed wine is unparalleled… in return, we’re looking forward to some great representation from you all at future events!

Tipsy Tuesday! 

New this year!  Join your fellow C+S members for Tipsy Tuesdays from 7p-9p.  Every 1st Tuesday of the month, we'll feature a local wine deal/event just for Cork + Screw members.  Sign up to receive our emails through KelloggGroups to get notified about the top secret location.

Vintage 101 

October 12 from 6-9 - Treat yourself to an evening of laughter, good spirits and an education in the world of wine. Sandeep, the owner of Vinic Wine Bar, is an approachable wine expert, who will walk us through a fun and lively wine "lecture" accompanied by six tastings.

Ticket price and sale information will be announced later this week! Please watch your inbox for details.  We will have a limited number of tickets and they will sell out quickly once we open ticket sales (we will let you know when tix will go on sale is so you can plan accordingly). RSVPing to the event does not guarantee you a spot -- cold hard cash, submitted online will.

E&J Gallo event:  

  

November 2 - Join Cork + Screw as we invite famed wine maker, E&J Gallo to Kellogg. This classroom-style event will showcase seven varietals (including one sparkling wine) and includes a wine education from the largest family-owned winery in the world.

4th Annual Pinot Days Chicago

 

November 13th, 2010, Navy Pier. Grand Festival - Saturday's Grand Tasting will showcase over 60 phenomenal producers of pinot noir. Consumers will be able to sample up to 300 pinots from every important 2007 vintage, and talk with the gifted winemakers who created these beautiful wines. Attendees will have access to pinots previously unavailable in Illinois. Local specialty food purveyors will serve delectables that pair well with pinot. Click here for more information.

Food & Wine Entertaining Showcase 

Food & Wine magazine returns to Chicago for the tenth year to host the annual Food & Wine Entertaining Showcase at the Museum of Contemporary Art on November 17 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

This year’s epicurean event will feature tastings from wineries around the world and Chicago's leading chefs, including a one-of-a-kind wine and food pairing seminar hosted by Chicago’s own talent and Bravo’s Top Chef Season 4 winner Stephanie Izard and wine expert Brian Duncan of Bin 36. Also, guests will experience an international cocktail mix-off sponsored by AT&T, with Adam Seger of Nacional 27 and Dale Levitski of Bravo’s Top Chef, Season 3.

The event will have tastings from 23 top Chicago chefs including:
