Job Opportunity at The Port Authority of NY & NJ
The Port Authority of NY & NJ is looking to hire full-time positions for the 2014 Leadership Fellows Program. This is a two-year, fast-track, rotational program that offers recent MBA, MPP/MPA, and Urban Planning graduates with invaluable on-the-job experience in planning, financial, and facility operations functions. Fellows will be involved in 4-5 rotational assignments over 24 months. Each assignment is designed to build a strong foundation of business acumen, technical finance skills, and knowledge of Port Authority operations.

Winter Courses Recommendations
REAL 916: Real Estate Lab
For all of you interested in the intersection of public policy, urban development and real estate, you should consider Prof. Therese McGuire’s Real Estate lab class this upcoming quarter. In this class, you will be working with private and public stakeholders to develop a business model for turning Chicago’s Union Station into a catalyst for urban economic development. The stakeholders include Amtrak (the public-private intercity train company), Metra (the public commuter train service), the City of Chicago, World Business Chicago (a committee of CEOs that advises the mayor of Chicago), and the Metropolitan Planning Council (a not-for-profit public policy think tank).

KPPI 470: Public Economics for Business Leaders
Taught by Prof. David Besanko, Public Economies for Business Leaders will enable you to understand, analyze and take the perspective of government and non-government organizations as they attempt to alleviate societal problems. Topics include the interface of government and business, the justification for and principle methods of government intervention in the market place, the primary means of paying for government, measuring the costs and benefits of government policies, and current policy applications such as social security reform, education policy, health insurance and tax reform.
