McManus Information

1)      MEET THE MCMANUS FRONT DESK STAFF:

The front desk is now operating on regular hours thanks to Sandra Grant and five dedicated undergrads (Matt, Eupha, Kaitlin, Billie, Ragini) who will make our lives a little easier. Take a minute to thank them for their service the next time you see them.

The desk will be open from 8:30am - 1pm and 2pm - 10pm on weekdays and from 10am - 6pm on weekends.  Please make every effort to direct routine questions (e.g. packages, vacuums, cots, etc) during these hours.  Anything that deals with visitor keys or replacement keys will need to be addressed before 4:30pm on weekdays when Sandra is here.

If you have further questions or comments regarding:

  • Lounge, Patio, Playroom reservations - please contact Viviana
  • Storage application - please contact Joel
  • Website and technology - please contact Prasanna

2) STORAGE REQUESTS

McManus storage requests for Winter/Spring are now available online.  Storage space is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  Applications will be accepted effective immediately, and the application window will close on Saturday, December 5th.  Please click on the link to go to the Online Storage Application.

3) COMPUTER LAB and STUDY ROOMS

KIS has organized the staplers in the computer lab and has committed to sending a work study student twice daily to organize the resource rooms.  Please do your part to keep the resource rooms neat by recycling your cover sheets, and neatly stacking printouts on the tables.

If you run into any issues with the computing facilities, please contact KIS at kis-help@kellogg.northwestern.edu. You can quickly report an issue through the Kellogg SERIAL.

You will come to LOVE our group and individual study rooms on snowy winter days!  You can book the group rooms through Outlook, but priority is always given to groups of 2 or more.  Groups may ask individuals to leave, but individuals can study in our own Quiet Study Room (QSR) on the 1st floor.

4) APARTMENT HEATING

You do have some control of the amount of heat released into your apartment. Too hot?  Close the radiator valve by turning clockwise.  Still hot to the touch?  Please submit a maintenance request.  Too cold?  Open the valve by turning counter clockwise completely.  If you have followed these instructions and still don't have heat, please submit a maintenance request ASAP! We don't want you to freeze this winter!

Also, the heaters make some popping and banging noises when the heat is turned on.  This is normal!  It is just a function of the steam-based centralized heating system that keeps Northwestern warm.

5) FLU SEASON and H1N1 UPDATE

We encourage residents to review the general H1N1 information and tips for reducing infection at http://www.nuhs.northwestern.edu/evanston/h1n1flu.aspx.  The CDC recommends that all students obtain both a seasonal influenza flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine this fall. Students should call the Health Service to make an appointment for vaccination.  Flu kits are available for students suspected of H1N1 infection.  Kits contain disposable thermometers, face masks, Purell, and instructions for self-care as well as the care of others are available by calling the Student Director on duty.

If you have suspected or proven H1N1 influenza, let a McManus Student Director know!

You should feel free to speak with and ask questions of Health Service staff. In addition to the main Health Service telephone number (847-491-8100), students are encouraged to call the Health Service H1N1 Hotline at 847-467-4161 during regular business hours for general information and questions.

6) McMANUS BILLING CYCLES

The university will automatically bill your students accounts on a quarterly basis for housing costs on the following periods:

9/1/08 - 12/16/08
12/17/08 -3/16/09
3/17/09 -6/16/09
