The Science of Motivation: Leadership Through Music

What can conducting an orchestra teach us about leadership?

Join the Kellogg Media & Entertainment Club for a unique interactive leadership experience inspired by Professor Brian Uzzi’s Science of Leadership course.

A guest conductor from Northwestern’s Bienen School of Music will lead a live demonstration with piano and violin, featuring exceptionally talented violinist Clara Kim. Together they will demonstrate how different leadership styles can dramatically shape the same musical performance.

Volunteers from the audience will have the opportunity to step up and conduct the musicians themselves. Through real-time feedback and discussion, we’ll explore how leaders communicate vision, motivate exceptional talent, and influence outcomes without doing the work themselves.

This engaging session connects leadership theory with creative collaboration, highlighting lessons that apply across industries—from film and television to music, media, and beyond.

No musical experience required.
