Screening of Poverty, Inc. The Africa Business Club and the Net Impact Club are thrilled to screen Poverty, Inc! Co-Producer, Mark Weber, will be at the screening. The West has positioned itself as the protagonist of the development narrative. But the results have been mixed, in some cases even catastrophic, and developing world leaders have become increasingly vocal in calling for change. Drawing on perspectives gathered from over 150 interviews shot over 4 years in 20 countries, Poverty, Inc. explores the hidden side of doing good. From disaster relief to TOMs Shoes, from adoptions to agricultural subsidies, Poverty, Inc. follows the butterfly effect of our most well-intentioned efforts and pulls back the curtain on the poverty industrial complex - the multi-billion dollar market of NGOs, multilateral agencies, and for-profit aid contractors. Are we catalyzing development or are we propagating a system in which the poor stay poor while the rich get hipper? When: April 21, 5:15-7:45pm Where: Jacobs 1246 Register: Register Here

Food VERSUS Fuel? No, Food THEN Fuel! How the American Biodiesel Industry Is Strengthening Food Security The emotionally-charged “Food VERSUS Fuel” debate has unfairly plagued American biofuel production for decades. Those ridiculous claims have been disproven time and time again - Biodiesel can be produced in a way that does not cut into food supplies, and instead, strengthen food security. Presented by Food & Agribusiness Club, Co-hosted by Energy Club. Lunch from an environmentally responsible restaurant will be provided! When: Tuesday, April 28, 12:15-1:15pm Where: Jacobs Room TBD Register: Register Here
