Networking Breakfast: Global Growth of Small and Mid-Size Companies We have received a limited number of invitations to a networking breakfast with Rotary CEO John Hewko and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) CEO Dana C. Hyde, along with Chicago area business leaders interested in global growth. Rotary is a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to addressing the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges, and the MCC is a US agency with a mission to reduce poverty through economic growth. Dine Below the Line with Food Prepared by Allen Center Head Chef, Jeff Muldrow Live Below the Line is a global campaign that raises awareness for extreme poverty by challenging participants to eat and drink on $1.50 a day for 5 days. Join us on Tuesday, April 28th for a #belowtheline lunch of rice and beans prepared by Allen Center head chef, Jeff Muldrow. You’ll be able to show support for your classmates who are taking the weeklong challenge while also learning more about how you can help fight extreme poverty. Lunch will be FREE thanks to Net Impact, but we'll encourage participants to make a donation of what they would have otherwise spent on lunch. Donations will be directed to the Kellogg For Opportunity fundraising campaign in support of Opportunity International's life-changing work providing microfinance services in developing countries. How the American Biodiesel Industry Is Strengthening Food Security The emotionally-charged “Food VERSUS Fuel” debate has unfairly plagued American biofuel production for decades. Those ridiculous claims have been disproven time and time again - Biodiesel can be produced in a way that does not cut into food supplies, and instead, strengthen food security. Live Below the Line with the Net Impact Board from April 27 - May 1! Kellogg Net Impact is taking the “Live Below the Line” challenge this year. For five days (April 27-May 1), we’ll eat and drink on $1.50 a day to highlight the lack of choice and opportunity currently faced by the 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty. We promise it’s doable…and extremely rewarding! Our team will be going on a group shopping trip on Sunday, 4/26, and will support each other through the week with small dinners and shared recipes. INTERNSHIPS The Joseph Initiative | Summer Internship Deadline The Joseph Initiative Limited (JI) is a grain trading and agricultural services company with operations throughout Western Uganda. As an integrated supply chain for agricultural commodities, the JI purchases, processes, bulks, and markets maize, capturing integration efficiencies and effectively managing quality. The JI leverages a network infrastructure of rural maize aggregation centers called Joseph Centers and centralized processing to more efficiently source and handle maize produced by smallholder farmers (80% of the primary producers throughout East Africa) and cut post-harvest losses due to insufficient quality management capabilities. At these Joseph Centers, the Joseph Initiative also provides critical agricultural and financial services to support the development of farmers’ capacity. This integration not only improves the business viability of the JI but drives shared, transformational value for the company’s stakeholders by providing smallholder farmers access to reliable and high value domestic and export markets while producing significant returns for investors.
