The Olympics: A Host City Perspective (Public Policy Club and Sports Business Club)

In the Fall of 2009, Chicago was one of four finalist cities for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The City spent years on the bid, developing a comprehensive strategy that would potentially transform the city, while building local and national support. President Obama and Oprah Winfrey traveled to the IOC in Denmark to make the City's final pitch it person. Ultimately, Rio de Janeiro was chosen.

Come hear Lori Healey, President of the Chicago 2016 bid (and current CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority), Bob Berland (Olympic Silver Medalist and Athlete Advisor to the bid), John Murray (Chief Bid Officer), and Jessica Fairchild (Chief Legal Counsel for bid) speak about what goes into developing a bid and how a city evaluates the financial impact of the Olympic Games and whether it is right for a city. The panel will discuss not only Chicago's bid, but the more general Olympic hosting process what the 2028 Summer Olympics could mean for Los Angeles.

Professor David Besanko will moderate the panel. Lunch will be provided.
