You've probably heard about the infamous Kylie Jenner Pepsi ad or seen internet mockery of "pens for women." Where do brands go wrong trying to address the important issue of diversity, and what are they doing right? How can a a company take a stand tastefully, and what makes failed attempts so intolerable?

In this event, our panel of advertising experts, including Prof. McTigue and Prof. Pearlman, discuss what works and what needs to change in advertising to celebrate diversity the right way.

The panel will address topics such as:
-Why do P&G and Cheerios succeed at celebrating diversity while brands like Pepsi and Doritos fail?
-When is it okay for a brand to celebrate Black History Month or use MLK Jr. in an ad?
-How do gendered products come about, and do they succeed? Do we really need pens "for her" or "shower tools" (loofahs marketed to men)?
-Which brands should take a political stand, and which should stay neutral? Which brands have succeeded or failed when taking a stand (thinking of 84 Lumber or Patagonia)?
-Dove: How did they lead the way on inclusion...and have they lost their way?
