Scott Ryles, COO, Kleiner Perkins in Fireside Chat with Prof. Scott Baker. Scott Ryles is a Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Westlake Village BioPartners. He serves on the investment committee and provides operational, financial, and management expertise to portfolio companies.

After graduating from Northwestern, Scott began his career in investment banking at Merrill Lynch in 1981. During his 18 years at Merrill, Scott was global head of natural resources, and technology investment banking and served on the operating committee. He has managed more than $100 billion of financings and merger and acquisition transactions.

In 1999, Kleiner Perkins recruited Scott to form and lead an investment bank in partnership with Charles Schwab, TD Waterhouse, and Ameritrade. Goldman Sachs acquired the bank in 2001. Scott later became the CEO of an insurance company initially formed by Kleiner Perkins that was acquired by AmTrust. From 2014 to 2018, Scott was the Chief Operating Officer of Kleiner Perkins.
Scott also co-founded, and served as CEO of two asset management firms. In addition to numerous venture capital backed companies, Scott has served as a Director of KKR Financial and The Gymboree Corporation.
