2015 Retail & Health Innovation Challenge - Wakeforest University Business Plan Competition
The 2015 Retail & Health Innovation Challenge Competition is hosted by Wake Forest University School of Business and sponsored by CVS and will be held in November 2015.
This is an open pitch competition for startups focused on retail or healthcare with a first place prize of $25K. Specifically, they are looking for ventures that meet the following criteria:
Retail:
- Products/services with a potential for commercialization within the next 12 months
- Pioneering, value-adding ventures
- Venture-fundable ideas
- Products/services that are accessible to consumers through a variety of channels
Health:
- A commitment to personal health, wellness, and overall wellbeing
- New tools, systems, and mechanisms that address diagnostic understanding, preventative measures, persistent relief, therapeutic care, or medical adherence

We all remember the "Cube of Connectedness" from orientation, and how valuable that exercise proved to be in opening up with our peers about what our true career goals are. The Kellogg Innovation Network 2015 Conference - Growth for Good: The Entrepreneur, an exciting event featuring world-class entrepreneurs, members of the media, and a variety of organizations to discuss the ways in which innovators are changing the world.
Speakers include Slava Rubin (IndieGogo), Aniq Rahman (Moat), Ali Velshi (Al Jazeera America), Paul Earle (Farmhouse, Leo Burnett), Farid Ismayizalda (Golden Pay), Mauricio Rossi (H-FARM Ventures), Rajesh Sawhney (GSF Superangles & GSF Accelerator), Howard Tullman (1871), David Gale (We Are Mighty, MTV), Sophia Swire (Future Brilliance Limited)
Slava Rubin discussed the founding of IndieGogo, the first crowdfunding platform developed and how it has revolutionalized fundraising. He offered great insights into the trend of further democratization of capital, and how governments will adapt to the changing trends in the future.
The session then focused on the discussion of Meta-Entrepreneurs, including accelerators and incubators, from around the globe. At last, the conference talked about the trends in Social Entrepreneurship, featuring We Are Mighty, a network focused on military personnel and veterans, and Future Brilliance Limited, a jewery retailer that sources gems and talents from Afganistan.

New Hope Ecotech is a technology solution that leverages the informal recycling flow to create a formal pathway for Brazilian manufacturers to fulfill their government mandate in an economic, transparent and inclusive way. New Hope Ecotech’s software tracks recycling activity and guarantees that mandatory recycling has been met by issuing a reverse logistics certification. The profits from these certificates are then distributed back down the links of the chain, including the waste pickers who collected the recycled materials. By increasing the income of the urban poor and decreasing the economic costs for manufacturers, Brazil’s recycling future can be transformed into an industry of hope.

Profikio is an online marketplace that connects teachers with qualified teaching assistants to grade and provide thorough, individualized feedback on student assignments. Profikio allows teachers to focus on developing innovative lesson plans and interacting with their students, while providing experience to education majors seeking opportunities to work with middle-school and high-school students.
