Splits to Spins: Value and Complexity

Join us for the first event in the 2017-2018 Brave Leader Series, featuring a conversation with Miles D. White, Chairman & CEO of Abbott Laboratories.

A CEO may be many things: the sculptor of corporate strategy and culture, the deal hunter, or the ultimate decider on business acquisitions, splits and spins. Few CEOs last in this role beyond a few years, and even fewer successfully embody it in its entirety.

Recognized for nine years running as one of Barron’s “World’s Best CEOs”, Miles White is now in his 19th year at the helm of Abbott, creating life-saving products and technologies in more than 150 countries. In conversation with Dean Sally Blount ’92, Miles White kicks off the 2017-18 Brave Leader Series in White Auditorium, with a meaningful discussion on creating value in the midst of constant complexity.

Miles White, who joined Abbott in 1984, became Chairman and CEO of the global healthcare company in 1999. He currently serves as a director of Caterpillar Inc. and McDonald’s Corporation, as Chairman of The Culver Educational Foundation, and on the Global Advisory Board at the Kellogg School of Management. Miles earned both a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University.
