The Lavin Bernick Executive Chats series gives Kellogg students an opportunity to engage with an esteemed executive or civic leader presenting his or her perspectives on leadership. The sessions are meant to be dialogue-driven, and informal, with a limited number of seats available at each session. They provide an intimate forum for in-depth conversations. This session is open to full-time Kellogg students.

Carol Lavin Bernick serves as CEO of Polished Nickel Capital Management, a privately held company that manages diversified investments ranging from retail sales to thoroughbred racing.  During Carol’s 37-year career with Alberto Culver Company, a global manufacturer of beauty and personal care products, she directed the company’s new product development, led its consumer products businesses and was elected Executive Chairman in 2004.

While dramatically growing the company to over $3 billion in sales, Carol instituted a nationally-recognized cultural overhaul profiled in the June 2001 Harvard Business Review and in numerous other books and articles. In 2011 she initiated and oversaw the company’s sale to Unilever.

Among various community commitments Mrs. Bernick is a member of the Northwestern University Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee for the Global Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management and is the Founder of the Lavin Bernick Executive Chats series.  She has been named Working Mother of the Year by the International Association of Working Mothers.  Carol received her B.A. from Tulane University.
