Details

The MMM × INVO Summer Innovation Workshop is a hands-on, experiential event designed to introduce the MMM Class of 2028 to the Querrey InQbation Lab (“The Q”) and engage them with real academic innovations from Northwestern’s leading researchers. Students will act as product managers, GTM leads, and innovation strategists for early-stage technologies and develop commercialization strategies, customer testing plans, or financial models.

Objectives:
• For MMM Students: Build exposure to The Q, apply coursework concepts, and develop product intuition critical for career development.
• For The Q: Generate commercialization ideas, identify talent, and test student collaboration models for future events and course opportunities.
• For MMM Leadership: Strengthen experiential learning and explore course application.

Event Structure:
1. Welcome + The Q Lab Introduction (10 min)
2. Technology Briefing (10 min)
3. Breakout Workshop (60 min)
4. Group Presentations (20 min)
5. Networking & Social (45 min)

Open to all MMMs in the Class of 2028 or 2027

Example Technologies/Opportunities:
• Deepfake detection system with human-in-the-loop verification
• AI video dubbing platform that handles translation and lip-sync to/from any language
• Protective malware defense through adversarial AI training
• Battery and energy storage enhancements for clean manufacturing
• Physical AI foundation model for motion design
• Medical Device supporting patient rehab post stroke

Deliverables:
Students should focus on developing one of the following for their chosen technology/startup and be prepared to share out their ideas with INVO Leadership & Entrepreneurs:

• Beachhead market: what is the most defensible starting place for this opportunity and why? How will the company establish a foothold and what needs to be true for this to be possible?
• Funding pathways: How should the company be funded (e.g. Grants, VC investment, strategic corporate partnerships, self-funded, etc.)? Why is this the best fit?
• Go-to-Market Strategy / Product Roadmap: How should the company scale? What markets should it expand to, and what features / capabilities will be required to capture share?

Students may choose to develop slides, a financial model, a roadmap document, or some other supporting materials to articulate their ideas. Presentations should be no longer than 5 minutes.
