What is Kellogg Mentors?
We are a group of over 50 volunteers from Kellogg. Volunteers split into small groups and "adopt" a classroom of students from the Holy Angels School on Chicago's South Side. Volunteers visit their classrooms at least once per month, and have the opportunity to design their own lessons for the class. On our previous visits, we have done a variety of activities with the kids, including:
- Personal finance and financial literacy
- Science lessons and experiments
- Engineering activities
- Culture lessons on China, India, Russia and more!
- Recycling tips
- Physical exercises
- Game shows
- Field trips
Kellogg Mentors is one of the largest and more active community service organizations at Kellogg. We also partner with students from the Northwestern School of Law to add diversity to our teams!
We hope to form one team for each grade. Each team will visit the school once a month. Each visit will be around an hour long. The commitment is minimal although many teams choose to visit more frequently because it is FUN! Volunteers, depending on their schedules, will pick the dates of visits.
At the end of the school year, we also accompany students from Holy Angels on annual field trips to the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, The Chopping Block, Lincoln Park Zoo, Second City and more!
Volunteering with Kellogg Mentors is also a great way to get to know your classmates outside school. We have made great friendships along the way!
