In 2014, Sherman Wright and his partner Ahmad Islam were on top of the world. Their ten-year-old multicultural creative agency, Commonground, had been named Ad Age's "Small Agency of the Year" and boasted a client roster that included names like MillerCoors, HBO, Verizon, and Bayer. So a private equity-backed deal to merge with two other minority-owned agencies and form a 300-person powerhouse with offices in New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami seemed like a logical, and truly compelling, opportunity. But a year later the deal had blown up, complete with frozen bank accounts and employees terminated without notice. And Sherman and Ahmad got an almost unheard of opportunity to rebuild their business from the ground up. . . .using the lessons they'd learned to make it even stronger the second time around. Lunch will be provided.
