Although there are efforts underway to democratize data, the democratization of actual information remains elusive. Data discovery tools still require a high degree of data (and technical) literacy, which limited their impact dramatically. The reality is that knowledge workers and analysts may possess the needed technical skills, but the business user and decision maker certainly does not. In order for analytic applications and technologies to be truly useful, they need to be able to reports on the data they have and the analytics they perform in a way that people can easily understand.
To bridge the gap between numbers and knowing, Narrative Science has developed Quill, a data-driven platform that explains the results of analytics to business users in natural language. We see Quill as the key to making intelligent systems work in partnership with us. Machine-generated narratives provide a window onto the data and the processes that make use of them, explain the findings in a way that makes sense to anyone trying to understand the results and answer questions people have when evaluating answers.
Rather than force the world to develop sophisticated data skills or hire an army of data scientists, Narrative Science's Quill demonstrates that these analytics and communication skills can be put in the hands of the machine.
