Njideka Harry

Come hear Njideka Harry (KSM ’12), founder of the Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) and Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year, share inspiring information about her organization’s work over the last 12 years.  Sub-Saharan Africa has the most youthful population in the world.  By 2050, the youth population is expected to be 349 million. Njideka will discuss how YTF is addressing Africa’s youth bulge through entrepreneurship and reverse migration.

Njideka Harry Bio

Njideka U. Harry is the Founder and CEO of Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF), an innovative non-profit company focused on using the power of technology to transform the lives of millions of rural youth and women in developing nations. For over a decade, YTF has pioneered the digital village ‘movement’ in sub-Saharan Africa and more recently in Latin America, by advocating for appropriate technology for development in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture and health.
Mrs. Harry serves as a consultant to several social enterprises, for-profit businesses with a social mission and international agencies on matters related to technology for development, youth entrepreneurship, gender investing, and corporate social responsibility. She has served on panels in international conferences such as the World Bank Innovation Fair in South Africa, the World Summit on Information Society in Tunisia, the Baramati Conference on ICT and Development in India, the UN Meets Silicon Valley Conference and the Gender Impact Investing Conference in the U.S.
Mrs. Harry’s work with youth, development and technology has also been featured in world renowned journals including Technologia, One World Africa, and a book, From the Ground Up – the Evolution of the Telecenter Movement. Njideka has served on the board of several organizations including Community Technology Centers Network and Promoting Readiness in Science and Math (project PRISM). She has received several awards for her dedication to community technology. She is an Associate Fellow of the Nigeria Leadership Institute and in 2011, led YTF to win the prestigious Microsoft Alumni Foundation Members Choice Award, a philanthropic organization supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Mrs. Harry earned her BBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She completed her post-graduate studies at Stanford University were she was a Reuters Digital Vision Fellow. Mrs. Harry is an Ashoka Fellow and in 2013 was awarded ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ by the Schwab Foundation and the World Economic Forum.
