Academics Committee
Mission
To be proactive in understanding the needs of the student body and continually improve the student experience as it relates to academics.
To work closely with the Dean of Academics, Faculty and Student Affairs to resolve academic related issues on behalf of students.
Role of Commitee Members
The Academic Committee consists of Academic representatives from each Section and each class year. Academic representatives have the opportunity to shape the Kellogg curriculum and academic experience and work with the Dean of Academics. The Academic Committee members each lead various initiatives to make an impact on the academic experience during their time at Kellogg.
- Developing techniques to improve stronger relationships between students and faculty
- Working to maintain a cutting edge core curriculum that is relevant to today's business world
- Changing elective course offerings to better meet the changing dynamics of the global and more socially minded business world.
- Connecting Kellogg clubs with each other through the classroom and KSA.
- Serve as a liaison for any concerns or issues raised by fellow section members.
Key Goals for 2011-2012:
- Develop recommendations for improving Kellogg's bidding system. This will begin with a complete a review of the current bidding system, using insights from students, faculty and administration, as well as benchmarking against peer schools. Recommendations will focus on improving the equity of the bidding process and ensuring the broadest availability possible for high-demand courses.
- Create a "best practices" feedback loop to faculty members. Best practices will be taken from professors across all departments and programs and organized in various categories (such as group assignment and management, case discussions, etc...) The availability of this resource will allow both new and seasoned faculty members to leverage the successful methods developed by their peers.
- Complete the core course summaries and make these available to Kellogg alumni. Several core course summaries, which provide the 30 - 40 most important slides, frameworks and concepts from the core curriculum, are already available on the Serial (note: these are only available to students who have completed the core & 1Ys).
- Continue to promote the outstanding faculty at Kellogg who make an impact on students through Faculty Impact Awards. Monitor the success of the program and look to find new and easier ways for students to nominate a professor
