Outreach and Education
Contact: Chris Wang The GLMA works closely with the Northwestern, Evanston and Chicago LBGT communities. During the 2009-2010 academic year, the GLMA:
- Worked with a local community non-profit to raise funds for LGBT-related causes.
- Brought together LGBT students from Northwestern's medical, law and graduate schools to foster a Northwestern-wide LGBT community.
- Joined with pre-professional programs at Northwestern, University of Chicago and Loyola University for annual professional networking and social events.
- Served on panels for Northwestern undergraduate students considering professional graduate school.
In addition, the GLMA seeks to raise awareness of LGBT issues within the larger Northwestern community. During the 2009-2010 academic year, the GLMA:
- Hosted Daniel Duty, Target's Director of Strategic Partnerships and Negotiations who led a discussion on Negotiations in corporate settings.
- Participated in Kellogg Off the Record Panel discussion on the role of affinity groups on campus
- Sponsored the annual Queertopia! academic festival at Northwestern, which provides a space for advanced undergraduate, graduate and professional students engaged in the study of sexualities to present their original work to a community of peers, colleagues, and faculty.
