The Lavin Bernick Executive Chat series gives Kellogg students an opportunity to engage with an esteemed executive or civic leader presenting his or her perspectives on leadership. The sessions are dialogue-driven, and informal, with a limited number of seats available at each session. They provide an intimate forum for in-depth conversations and student interaction.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • This session is open to FT & EW Kellogg MBA students.
  • Your registration indicates your interest to attend.
  • 25 Attendees will be selected using a lottery system in accordance with event capacity.
  • If randomly selected, you will be notified via email and required to re-confirm that you will attend within 24 hours.
  • If you need to cancel your registration, please do so before registration closes

This chat will be held in-person at the Kellogg Global Hub. Once re-confirmed, selected students will receive room location details via an outlook invitation.

DIANE B. WAYNE, MD is Chief Medical Officer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

During her career at Northwestern, she has held many leadership roles at the departmental, medical school and hospital system. Her past roles include serving as the Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Associate Chief Medical Officer at NMH.  She previously served as Vice Dean for Education at Feinberg from 2014-2020 and was the inaugural Dr. John Sherman Appleman Professor of Medicine from 2011-2021.  Since 2017, she served as Vice President, Administration at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, overseeing education, professional development and diversity, equity and inclusion for the health system.  In 2025 she was promoted to Senior Vice President.  

Diane will speak with 25 students in an off-the-record discussion, where she'll share leadership best practices from her extensive experience.

DIANE B. WAYNE, MD is Chief Medical Officer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  During her career at Northwestern, she has held many leadership roles at the departmental, medical school and hospital system. Dr. Wayne has received many honors and awards, including the 2016 Mentor of the Year award from Feinberg, the 2015 Patterson Award, bestowed annually to the Best Teacher in the Department of Medicine, and the 2021 Career Achievement in Medical Education Award from the Society of General Internal Medicine. In 2018, the Department of Medicine named the award for the best student in the medicine clerkship the Diane B. Wayne, MD Excellence Award. Dr. Wayne received her bachelor’s and medical degrees from Northwestern University. 

Dr. Wayne’s research focuses on the intersection of education and patient care quality.  Her expertise is in simulation-based research.  Her team has shown that high quality education leads to improved clinical skills, reduced iatrogenic complications, and lower hospital costs than traditional approaches. She has authored a textbook and more than 125 peer reviewed publications on these topics in notable journals such as Academic Medicine, the American Journal of Medical Quality, JAMA Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and CHEST.
